The Advantages of Blended and Metallic Epoxy Floor Coatings

If you are an installer of concrete floor epoxy, you’ll no doubt having people coming to you looking for the absolute lowest-cost option. They might have a warehouse that the public never sees and aren’t interested in any sort of blended or metallic epoxy floor coating. They just want a concrete floor sealant that will protect their warehouse floor and give them some sort of anti-slip surface. In this case, it’s going to be difficult to convince them that they should spring for the extra cost of an added ingredient that’s not going to add to the practical uses.

But that all changes when the epoxy resin floor paint is in a different environment, one that the public might see. When that’s the customer who calls, one who might run a restaurant, hotel, or clothing store, it’s much easier to convince them that flakes are the way to go. Why? Because it can make their space look so much nicer to their customers. Let’s take a look at the most common reasons that people choose flakes in their decorative epoxy flooring in commercial spaces.

It’s Very Impressive

If you show someone a floor that has been covered in clear concrete floor sealant, they won’t be very impressed. Even a perfectly-poured concrete floor isn’t going to be perfect, and you’ll most likely be able to see those imperfections through the clear sealant. That might be fine for a warehouse store such as Costco, where the high ceilings and drab interiors are trying to convey the idea of frugality, suggesting that the warehouse-like surroundings are giving the customers a better deal.

But most stores are trying to impress customers, whether a lot or a little. If you show a potential client something that has metallic flake inside, they’re going to get it: this looks impressive, and it’s going to impress customers. Not only that, but customers don’t have to be consciously impressed by the flooring; so long as it looks good, they’ll be subconsciously lead to believe that the store is better than others.

The good thing is that flakes add to the beauty while still retaining many of the most important structural and safety features that store owners are looking for. The fact is, not enough stores are currently investing in this type of floor sealant. Sure, they might have it on there for its practical uses such as being non-slip, but the added beauty that metallic or blended flakes can add really adds a beauty that can make a store stand out.

Flakes Hide Damage

Here are two obvious statements: floors are meant to be walked on, and gravity pulls things down. Even the hardest floors floors are going to suffer wear because of people walking on them, and floors are also going to suffer damage as items are dropped on them. Wooden floors tend to suffer the worst, as to tile floors. And as hard as concrete floor epoxy can be, it will suffer damage from time to time. This damage will be more apparent on a floor with clear coatings, because the damage is easier to differentiate from the non-damaged parts.

Metallic floor epoxy, on the other hand, can cover up some of this damage. How? Because it’s so “busy.” The eyes aren’t seeing every flake, because the floor is creating an interesting pattern for the eye to enjoy. If there’s damage to the epoxy, the eye can’t really focus on that damage because the image provided by the epoxy flakes is already so busy. Epoxy flakes are also great at hiding any imperfections, such as air bubbles, that might show up when it is being applied.

The Variety Of Add-Ins Can Match the Store

New stores can spend thousands of dollars with a marketing company trying to come up with the perfect branding. This often includes the look of the logo, the verbage that is allowed on signs and correspondence, and, of course, the colors that the store will be using.

One of the great options you’ll get with blended flakes, whether metallic or not, is that they give commercial designers the option of matching colors in the floor to the rest of the store. Sure, they could choose something neutral such as gray, but we also have flake that is gold, red, pink, blue, brown, purple, and more. With so many options, a retail space or restaurant can match the colors in the floor to the colors that everyone will be seeing on signage. In addition, if they’re not interested in flakes, colors can also be changed with our pigments and the beautiful non-flake metallic options that a client can choose to match the look of the store.

When a customer comes in looking for something nice, Floorguard Products provides the options that will make them happy. If they’re looking for something simple, showing them some examples of what metallic or blended flake can look like will almost certainly convince them that flake is the the way to go.
